AUXILIARY WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Baton Workshop Descriptions
Basic Baton
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed: All participants must have their own baton. Proper baton length measures from the underarm to longest finger. Batons can be purchased at Winning Edge Trophy Shop or www.americanbaton.com.
Target Group: Young ladies aspiring to learn how to twirl baton, needing to know basics skills.
Minimum Age: 5
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to learn basic twirl maneuvers and basic marching techniques.
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): n/a
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Horizontal, Figure Eight, Around the World, Basic “Flashing”, Posture and Carriage, Basic Marching Techniques
*All concepts taught during workshops will need to be reinforced in order for participants to fully develop skills.
Intermediate Baton
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed: All participants must have their own baton. Proper baton length measures from the underarm to longest finger. A flag baton is requested for participants who have them.
Target Group: Young ladies who are currently members of baton squads and possess the skill prerequisites listed.
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to execute intermediate baton techniques for participation in high school or independent marching units.
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): Posture and Carriage, Basic Marching Techniques, Basic Twirls (Horizontal, Figure Eight, Around the World), Basic “Flashing” Techniques
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Posture/Carriage, Marching, Complex Flashing Sequences, Body Wraps, Finger Twirls, Thumb Flips, Basic Tosses (ex: Basic Ball Tosses, Horizontal), Small Twirling Sequences, Flag Baton Techniques
*All concepts taught during workshops will need to be reinforced in order for participants to fully develop skills.
Advance Baton
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed: All participants must bring two batons. Proper baton length measures from the underarm to longest finger.
Target Group: Young ladies who are current members of high school baton squads and possess the skill prerequisites listed.
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to execute advanced baton techniques to enhance twirling skills for field show performance and competition
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): Basic Twirls (Horizontal, Figure Eight, Around the World), Body Wraps, Finger Twirls, Thumb Flips, Basic Tosses (ex: Basic Ball Tosses, Horizontal)
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Stunts, Advanced Body Wraps, Complex Finger Twirl Sequences, Two-baton Techniques

Dance Workshop Descriptions
Basic Dance
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed:
Target Group: Young ladies aspiring to learn basic dance skills. This workshop will be good for children who are a part of community and church bands who need the techniques/skills listed below.
Minimum Age: 5
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to execute basic dance techniques and marching techniques.
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): n/a
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Posture, Basic Marching Techniques, Jazz Walks, High Kicks, Shasse’ (Transition), Toe Touches, Chine’Turns, Mini Dance Sequences

Intermediate Dance
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed: n/a
Target Group: This workshop is for young ladies who have been participants on high school squads for at least one year and need more dance techniques/skills to strengthen performance. Members of church/community dance squads, for at least a year or two, would benefit as well.
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to execute intermediate dance techniques and marching techniques to enhance performance.
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): High Kicks, Shasse’ (Transition), Toe Touches, Chine’Turns, Mini Dance Sequences
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Posture, Marching/Dance Sequences, Intricate Jazz Walks, Enhancement of Basic Dance Skills, Stand Routines, Field Show Sequences, Illusions, Grand Jete Leaps, Leg Grabs, Kicks

Advance Dance
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed:
Target Group: This workshop is for young ladies who have been participants on high school dance squads for at least two years or possess the skills listed at prerequisites.
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to execute more advanced dance techniques to enhance performance.
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): Good Marching Skills, Basic Dance Skills, High Kicks, Shasse’ (Transition), Toe Touches, Chine’Turns, Illusions, Grand Jete Leaps, Leg Grabs
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Posture, Marching/Dance Sequences, Intricate Jazz Walks, Choreography Concepts, Switch Leaps, Pirouettes, Axle Turns, Kick Sequences, Barrel Turns, Stag Leaps, Ribbon and Dance Techniques, Dance Hoop Techniques
*All concepts taught during workshops will need to be reinforced in order for participants to fully develop skills.
Flag Workshop Descriptions
Basic Flag
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed: Flag Pole
Target Group: Beginner Twirlers on high school squads and independent marching units needing reinforcement in basic twirling. This workshop is also suited for “aspiring” members of flag twirling squads.
Minimum Age: 8
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to execute basic flag twirling skills
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): n/a
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Posture & Carriage, Marching Techniques, Basic Twirls (Front Twirls, Figure Eight, Side Twirls), Pike Points, Ripple Formats (marching block)

Intermediate Flag
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed: 5 or 6 Foot Flag Pole and 25” to 28” Swing Flags
Target Group: At least one year of twirling experience on a high school squad or independent marching unit
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to execute techniques of intermediate high step and basic corps style twirling.
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): Must be strong in basic twirling skills (ex: front twirls, figure eight, side twirls, around the world)
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Posture/Carriage, Marching Techniques, Proper Snapping, Pike Points, Reinforce Basic Twirls (High Step), Drop Spin, Back Drop, Front Spin (Corps), Marching/Twirling Sequences, Slow Paced Twirling Sequences (Field Show), Combination Twirls, Field Show and Marching Block Ripples
*All concepts taught during workshops will need to be reinforced in order for participants to fully develop skills.
Advance Flag
Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Equipment Needed: 5 or 6 Foot Flag Pole
Target Group: Experienced flag twirlers of high school squads
Workshop Objective: Participants will be able to execute a variety of more complex winter guard and corps style flag techniques
Skill Prerequisites (What do participants need to know prior to attending this workshop?): Must be very strong in executing basic twirls, high step style and corps style.
Techniques/Skills To Be Taught: Posture/Carriage, Right and Left Shoulder Spins, Figure Eight, Flats, Tosses, Single and Double Eight Count Tosses, Horizontal Tosses (Angle, Front, Behind Back, Short Routines (combining body and flag techniques).
